Mahir AKKAYA was personally welcomed by Monsignor Carlos CABECHNHAS, Archbishop and Rector of the Sanctuary of Fátima, as well as by Mr. Marco Daniel DUARTE, Director of the museum of the same sanctuary.
The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Fátima (or simply the Sanctuary of Fátima) is an important Catholic Marian pilgrimage site, located at Cova da Iria, in the city of Fátima, Portugal.
During this warm and cordial meeting, Monsignor CABECHNHAS emphasized the uniqueness of the donation by accepting the painting ‘The Virgin with the Child Jesus’, a work of extraordinary beauty.
This painting will be displayed at the museum of the Fátima pilgrimage sanctuary.
Recognizing Mahir AKKAYA’s commitment, Monsignor CABECHNHAS even blessed his ring, which features the face of Jesus surrounded by a crown of diamonds, flanked by two Armenian crosses (the first nation to make Christianity the state religion in 315 AD).
Mahir AKKAYA shared his approach to patronage with them. Exceptionally, after receiving the painting, they inquired whether it would be possible to obtain one or more other paintings from the same artist, as they usually do not accept works of this kind.
They also presented him with a letter of thanks expressing the desire to see other works proposed as part of the patronage, as well as a pilgrimage medal. The donation was also formalized through an official agreement.
Local, national, and international media (newspapers, television, radio, internet) widely covered this exceptional initiative. For more information, you can refer to the thematic content below or visit the ‘Press’ section of the website.
